Floatation Therapy

REST

REST or Restricted Environmental Stimulation one of the most relaxing experiences you can have.  1000 lbs of epsom salt is dissolved in a couple hundred gallons of water so you float effortlessly achieving total weightlessness.  By reducing the sensory input to our body, we naturally move out of "fight or flight" and into "rest and digest".  Many people fall asleep! The entire volume of water is highly sanitized through an intense disinfection process 3 times after each client, ensuring extremely clean and hygienic water.

REST or sensory deprivation as it used to be called was first discovered in the 1960s when NASA worked with Dr. John C. Lilly to test and train pilots for missions to outer space. They wanted to see how people would respond to a lightless, soundless, and weightless environment. Floating was such a profoundly relaxing experience that Dr. Lilly went onto pioneer personal and commercial float tank units for the general public to enjoy. Truly, the first versions of the float tanks looked intimidating, so over the decades they have evolved into beautiful, spacious cabins big enough to stand up inside of. Nothing is "closed" over you. You can even have lights and music if you feel that a more sensorial experience is more appropriate for your needs. You are totally in control of the experience inside the cabin.

REST has been studied at places like the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa Oklahoma for a myriad of conditions ranging from, but not limited to, chronic pain, high anxiety, depression, PTSD, and anorexia nervosa. Currently, Stardust is participating in global float research study in order to collect the largest amount of data across hundreds of participants. We believe deeply in the benefits of Float Therapy and welcome you to share any concerns or questions that you have.

Best Practices

You will be given a private room with a shower to prepare for your float. Our floattendents will guide you through a complete orientation.

Some of the best practices to make your experience the ultimate in relaxation are:

  • Silence or turn off your phone

  • Abstain from caffeine at least a couple hours before your arrival

  • Eat a few hours before your float so you don't hear rumbling from a hungry or digesting belly

  • Women should refrain from shaving at least 24 hours before and men at least 12 hours

  • Do not take any mind-altering substances before your float, if we suspect you are under any kind of influence we will ask you to reschedule

  • No need to bring a swimsuit, you are in a private float suite with your own shower, towels and amenities

  • If you have longer hair, braids, or locs we can offer you a specially designed swimcap, it keeps some of the water out, but it can feel a bit restrictive

  • If you wear contacts let us know and we can provide a case and solution for you

  • Floating is safe for normal low-risk pregnancy and a wonderful way to connect with your baby.

  • Allow yourself time afterwards to decompress

  • If you have any questions or concerns at any time don't hesitate to engage with our staff
